Google is manufacturing their own cell phone. It will be coming out this January. There are two versions of the touch screen phone, one is an unlocked version that will allow consumers to buy the phone and use it with whatever provider they already have. The other is linked to T-Mobile. Their hope is that the new phone will be as hot as Apples iPhone. They feel it is going to revolutionize the industry.
I think Google kicks butt and the phone will most likely be very successful. I know lots of people who would love to have the iPhone but don't have AT&T as a provider so they can't. The unlocked idea is really great because it doesn't limit the phone to be sold only to one group of people.

Industry Awaits Oprah's Decision
http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118011256.html?categoryid=2522&cs=1. Michael Schneider.
Oprah Winfrey is questioning whether or not she should continue doing her daytime show "Oprah." This decision will affect Oprah greatly as well as several other T.V. stations such as ABC and CBS. She has yet to make any decisions and has given herself until the end of the year to announce what her choice will be. Her contract however with ABC doesn't end until 2011 so the show will continue to run until then.
To be honest I have never really watched Oprah. I watched a part of one show where Oprah gave her entire audience brand new cars but that's it. She is going to have to discontinue her show sometime and if she feels that now is the time to do it then I think that's what she should do. Her show has been very inspirational to many and no matter when she decides to quit she will always remain a legend.

Men More Likely to 'Go Digital,' Study Says
Mcllelan, Steve. "Men More Likely to 'Go Digital,' Study Says" 9.10.09
This article is talking about how most men tune into digital media rather then the traditional types such as newspapers, and magazines. Whereas women tend to stay with the traditional forms of media. There is also a difference in the percentage of men and women who listen to the radio. Generally males think that the radio is outdated and that there are more current better ways to listen to music.
This study makes sense to me considering that men are generally more accepting to change then women are. Females tend to stay with old ways and traditions.

MySpace and Nascar team up
Shields, Mike. "Turner, MySpace Ink Cross-Promo Pact for Nascar.com." 24. Sept. 2009.
Basically Nascar has made a very smart move teaming up with MySpace. They have a deal with MySpace and now they are hosting a Nascar page that features all Nascars upcoming events, pics, and info. They will also be promoting some of Nascars products. There will be feeds from twitter available as well.
I retired my MySpace page a long time ago and am not really a fan of the network. I also have never "twitted" and have no idea what Twitter even is. I guess its a really good move for Nascar but all in all its just another way for companies/organizations to use the media to target consumers.

Apartheid Haunts South Africa's Schools
Ceila, Dugger. "Apartheid Haunts South Africa's Schools." http://www.nytimes.com/
This video clip shows a high school in South Africa and interviews several students who attend there. The students talk about their dreams and the things they aspire to become thanks to a good education. Unfortunately, schools in South Africa struggle. Many because of a lack of good educators. Teachers often come to school late, or not at all, and are not held accountable for their absence. They don't seem to have any passion for teaching, or dedication to the students. Despite this, students have still found ways to fight for their dreams. One girl interviewed, had no family whatsoever. Her parents and older sister had died from AIDS. Yet she had an incredibly cheerful and positive about life and achieving her dreams.
It amazes me how positive the students in S. Africa are. So many of them have suffered from losing loved ones, many have no families at all and are completely on their own, and yet they still remain so positive and hopeful. They haven't given up, but rather they keep their dreams close to them and continually aim for great things.

In School Speech Obama Avoids Political Issues
Sout, David. "In School Speech Obama Avoids Political Issues." 8. Sept. 2009. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/08/us/politics/08speech.html?_r=1&hp
The article written by David Stout talks about the kind of message President Obama is going to give students Tuesday September 8 during school. He shares personal stories about his own education, and is going to stress the importance of trying in school. The article also talks about the concern there has been as far as Obama's decision to address a speech to young students, rather then the actual content of his speech.
I can understand parents initial concern for this speech. There has been a lot of controversy over Obama's political platform, of course parents who are against his agenda would be against him specifically addressing their children! Now that the content of his speech has been released, and that the "letter to the President" has been taken off the lesson manual, parents are calming down. I simply don't understand why we were going to be asked "what we could do for our president" in the first place. Why do we need to do anything for our president? Our focus should NOT be on him, but rather our country and our fellow citizens.

My Sisters Keeper
Lyons, Ben. Mankiewicz, Ben. "My Sisters Keeper." http://bventertainment.go.com/tv/buenavista/atm/reviews.html?sec=6&subsec=My+Sister%27s+Keeper
Ben Lyons and Ben Mankiewicz commented on the movie My Sisters Keeper. Both felt that the actress Sofia Vassilieva did an outstanding job playing the role of Kate Fitzgerald, a young girl infected by cancer. However they felt that the other cast members were terribly unconvincing in each of their roles. They commented especially on Cameron Diaz saying that she is much more suited for commedic roles. Nevertheless, neither one denied that the movie is a heart throbber. Their advice: bring a tissue.
The advice given is just about the only thing I agree with from the review of this movie. Bring a tissue. I felt Cameron Diaz did an outstanding job executing a part that was not only very difficult to play, but that was also quite different from any role she'd ever taken on. All the actors played each part beautifully. I thought that the ending, despite its difference from the book, went better with the movie. I would definitely recommend seeing this tear jerking feature.
